Remote Video Inspections

The following inspections may be conducted remotely through our Remote Video Inspections. Please inquire within the Building Department at the time of scheduling.

  • Waterproof (Interior)

Scheduling a Remote Video Inspection

A 4-hour notice is required for all remote video inspection requests by contacting Building Department by email. You will need to provide: 

  • Type of inspections required; 
  • Either your email address or phone number that is linked to your Google Duo or Apple FaceTime account.

Office staff will contact you shortly thereafter to schedule the requested remote video inspection. 

Requirements for Remote Video Inspection

To participate, the client must use either the Google Duo or Apple FaceTime application on mobile device to interact with the City Building Inspector. 

Prior to scheduling, ensure that the necessary tools are available. For example, flashlight for inspection areas with low light, tape measure to verify length, level, GFCI tester and an approved ladder (for close ups of areas with limited access), etc.

Mobile device (smartphone, iPad, or other tablet) with reliable data service (4G/LTE internet) OR strong Wi-Fi connection (preferred). Caution: If no Wi-Fi is available, cell data is an option. If you have a limited cell data plan your service provider may charge you for data used during the re-inspection.

Warning: Older mobile devices or mobile devices with older operating systems and lower resolution cameras may not work properly.

New Residential & Commercial Building Requirements

  • Excavation - Before pouring footings (call Building Department office for rest of inspections).
  • Foundation - After foundation erected, before back filled or the erection of any building.
  • Partial building - Before any insulation and after all HVAC, plumbing and electric has been roughed-in and inspected.
  • Rough inspection - After insulation, before drywall.
  • Final building - After finals done on heating, electric and plumbing.

Existing Residential & Commercial Building Requirements

It is the contractor's responsibility to make sure access is available to the premises. The appropriate party must always be on site during the scheduled inspection. Our inspectors do not make calls to arrange for access. All structures are to be identified by house numbers clearly visible.
