Prayers for the Palumbo Family

Retired Beachwood Fire Captain Michael Palumbo, Jr. lost his battle to cancer this week. The City extends its deepest sympathies to the Palumbo family. Mayor Gorden and Fire Chief Kearns released the following statement:

“The City of Beachwood and the Beachwood Department of Fire-Rescue are deeply saddened by the passing of Captain Michael Palumbo. He was a valued member of our team for more than two decades and will be sorely missed by all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.”

The Beachwood Department of Fire-Rescue is flying flags at half-staff in honor of
Captain Palumbo.

Giant American Flag on Display Outside City Hall

A gigantic, 1800 square foot American flag is on display on the lawn in front of City Hall, visible from Richmond Road. This flag is part of the City’s annual tribute to the soldiers who have lost their lives in service to our country. Please feel free to stop and park at City Hall to get a closer view and pay honor to those who have paid the ultimate price to preserve our freedom.

Cleveland Magazine

Cleveland Magazine’s annual “Rating the Suburbs” issue is out.  The City of Beachwood is rated #2 overall in Northeast Ohio and #1 in Cuyahoga County.

“Beachwood has long had a well-earned reputation as one of the best places in Northeast Ohio to live and work.  We are honored to be recognized by Cleveland Magazine as one of the best communities,” said Mayor Merle S. Gorden.  Beachwood’s neighborhoods are safe and well-kept, schools are consistently rated excellent and housing values are among the highest in the County with a business base that keeps taxes low.  “Our residents have superb city services and some of the best shopping and dining in the region. But mostly, I think it’s our residents that truly make our City stand out.”

Mayor Gorden said that while the City’s leaders are pleased with the honor, “we also realize we need to keep working hard to maintain and elevate Beachwood’s traditional high standards – and that is what we will keep doing.”   We also want to thank our City employees for their hard work in making Beachwood a successful and vibrant community.
