The City of Beachwood and the Beachwood Historical Society are joining with local veterans and others to commemorate Veterans Day on Sunday, November 9th with a ceremony at 11 a.m. at Beachwood Cemetery.
Beachwood Cemetery is located at the corner of Green and Halburton roads, adjacent to the Canterbury Golf Club, and is the final resting place for more than 40 soldiers. The cemetery dates back to the early 19th century. Veterans of seven wars are buried there, starting with the Revolutionary War.
“It is important to pay tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of America’s veterans,” said Mayor Merle S. Gorden. “We host this annual ceremony to honor those who have died in service protecting and preserving our freedom, and to thank living veterans for their dedicated and loyal service.”
The ceremony will include a Color Guard and playing of Taps. Boy Scouts will decorate the cemetery’s graves with flags.
The event is open to the public. Cemetery tours will take place until 1 p.m.
