[ARCHIVED] Beachwood Mayor Merle Gorden names Larry Heiser as Finance Director

BEACHWOOD, OH— Beachwood City Council last evening confirmed Mayor Merle Gorden’s appointment of Larry Heiser as the City’s new Finance Director.

Heiser has more than 16 years of experience in public sector finance and replaces David Pfaff, who retired earlier this year. Heiser most recently served as the Finance Director for the City of University Heights where he managed a general fund budget of $12.9 million and a total entity budget of $29.2 million. He also previously worked as the Finance Director for the Village of Johnstown, Auditor for the City of Bexley and as an Assistant Auditor in the State Auditor’s Office.

Gorden said Heiser has the skills to continue the City’s excellent fiscal condition.
“Larry will be a great addition to our team with his extensive history of working with city budgets and in managing taxpayer dollars,” said Gorden. “We look forward to working with him.”

Gorden also thanked Assistant Finance Director Michelle Kaplan for doing an outstanding job during the search. Kaplan had indicated she did not wish to be a considered for the position.

The City of Beachwood is in excellent financial condition. Last year, two major New York City bond-rating agencies each awarded the city their highest ratings – which means their reviews found Beachwood to be a very safe investment for buyers of municipal bonds the city issues to finance municipal improvements.

A cum laude graduate of Capital University in Columbus, Heiser is a member of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.
