[ARCHIVED] Mayor Merle S. Gorden Appoints Gary Haba as Police Chief

BEACHWOOD, OH— Beachwood City Council yesterday confirmed Mayor Merle Gorden’s appointment of Gary Haba as the City’s new Police Chief.

Haba will assume the role of Beachwood Police Chief following Keith Weinbrenner’s retirement in February next year. Haba has dutifully served the Beachwood Police Department for more than two decades. He has served as a patrol officer, sergeant and lieutenant.  He was promoted to captain in 2015.

“Captain Haba has served this community with much integrity, dedication and commitment to service,” said Mayor Gorden.  “He has both the technical expertise and leadership to serve our community well as our top cop.”

Haba served in the U.S. Army from 1990-1994 and is a graduate of the University of Akron Police Academy.  His long list of accomplishments includes SWAT Team, Honor Guard, Police Academy Instructor and Firearms Instructor.  He is a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership College (PELC) and the FBI National Academy.

Captain Haba said, “I am truly honored by this appointment and excited about working in my new capacity with the outstanding employees that make up the Beachwood Police Department.  Together we will continue striving for excellence and adjusting to the constant changes in our profession.”
