Richmond/Chagrin I-271 Corridor Project
The City of Beachwood has been collaborating with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) on a very important safety improvement project initiated over a decade ago. Since 2012, numerous studies of the area have been conducted, along with several Council and Committee meetings, a residential Town Hall, and successful funding applications for various project-related items.
The construction phase of these safety improvements isn't expected until around 2027/2028, as there are still significant steps that must occur including design work and applications for additional funding.
This page aims to be a continual source of information regarding this crucial safety improvement project.
Project Updates
March 18, 2024 - Council Meeting
City Council deliberated on the proposed amendment to the Local Public Agency (LPA) agreement concerning the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) safety improvement project. Originally approved by City Council on June 21, 2022, the agreement underwent modifications by ODOT, necessitating a revision that mandated additional third-party review. The amended agreement was approved by City Council.

March 4, 2024 - Council Safety and Public Health Committee Meeting
The City of Beachwood remains committed to prioritizing safety, particularly at the I271 Chagrin Richmond Corridor and provided a project summary and review of safety and traffic patterns in anticipation of Council being asked to deliberate on amending the original LPA agreement due to changes in ODOT's criteria for future agreements.
Approval of the LPA agreement is the next step to advance to the design phase, a prerequisite for submitting federal funding applications and meeting necessary deadlines. The current estimated cost of the project stands at approximately $17M. Our aim is to secure funding that will minimize the costs to the City of Beachwood.

Why GPD?
As a result of the ODOT posting of the project during October 2015, 4 engineers submitted bids for the project. Related documents are below including the scoring sheets used to evaluate the engineers who submitted proposals. This ultimately led to GPD being awarded the bid.
